This Year's Build

This year Thrivent for Lutheran's is sponsoring two new Habitat houses in Lincoln.  The house we are building at Sheridan Lutheran is for Aras Amin Mustafa & Naureen Zaman and their four children.  This house will be moved to 3319 X Street near the house we built in 2008.  Construction began in April and we expect to have the house ready to move by mid-June.
The second house, also under construction, is for Elizabeth Kur and will be located at 7020 Platte Ave.
Thrivent requires that 50% of the labor hours be provided by Lutherans.  Last year we had participation from several area churches and Lutherans provided 70% of the hours.  We are hoping for even greater participation in 2009.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization that strives to provide decent affordable housing for families in need.  To qualify for a Habitat house the owner's income must generally be less than is required for a commercial loan, yet sufficient to pay the Habitat Mortgage of $60,000 to $70,000.  Habitat families do not pay mortgage interest, but they are required to provide 300-400 hours of sweat equity in lieu of a down payment.  Mortgage payments are recycled to build more Habitat houses.
If you are interested in supporting this year's build, please watch this site for a schedule of construction activity. You many contribute labor, lunches, money and prayers. Below is a list of contacts. If you wish to contribute money, please contribute via your Lutheran Church. Your church will forward these funds to Habitat via Thrivent.
