Global Missions

Jesus reminds us in John 20:21 that "As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." (English Standard Version)  In practical terms this means that our mission should be a reflection on Jesus' earthly ministry of love, compassion, relief, dignity and reconciliation. It also means that our mission must be grounded in worship, reading Scripture and prayer. If we seek to model our ministry after the life of Christ, it is imperative that we not only study and meditate on the life of Christ, but that we are in worship and prayer and honoring God through serving others.

At Sheridan we believe mission is about partnering with our brothers and sisters across the globe in doing God's work.  We believe that ministry is God's work done though our hands.  When we go on a mission trip we go primarily to visit our mininstry partners, to experience God's work, and to return invigorated for service in the church.  We believe that our real mission starts when we return, not when we depart.

As you go on a mission trip expect to broaden your horizons as you see how the majority of the world lives. In most of our mission locations families live on just a couple dollars a day. You will be challenged in your own faith as you see the contentment and joy that many experience in the absence of those things we think make up a “good life.”  You will grow in your faith as you experience first-hand how mission is not just something we do, it is a central part to who we are as Christians.  We invite you to join us as together we work to be the body of Christ, as we seek to represent Christ to those around us, not only teaching them about all that Jesus has commanded us, but also caring for them and treating them as Jesus has cared for and treated us.
