ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Pentecost:  What is it all about?  From creation to Pentecost to our world today, the Holy Spirit is a divine wind blowing in our lives, inspiring, prompting and leading.  Come celebrate Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit on Sunday, May 11, at 9:45 a.m. in the Chapel and explore what Pentecost means as well as what it means to be inspired by the winds of the Spirit and to live a Spirit-filled life.
  • Sunday Morning Men's Bible Study  This study meets each Sunday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room.  The Master Builders Bible for Men is the resource for our study of Coming Home: Pilgrims on Their Way Back.  Men of all ages are welcome to join us in our study and discussion.  Call Phil Wittig at 261-8489 for additional information.
  • The Life of Jesus Through Matthew’s Eyes  A unique Bible Study ministry at Sheridan and an opportunity for Sudanese and Americans to study the Bible together in English.  There are short lessons with questions and answers, along with a Virtual Bible video.  Participants can help in assisting the Sudanese write the answers in English. Please consider joining!  Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Faith Walk Café.   Facilitated by Jan Madsen and Charlotte Hoke.
  • Masculinity: Will the REAL Jesus Please Stand Up?  Leader, Wes Oestreich, has duplicated the study outline in case you may not have the Master Builder Bible.  (If there are some of you who would like to purchase one of these Bibles, let Wes know.  They are $20 each and we have a new supply available.)  Invite someone to attend with you and give our study group a try any time you can!  We meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. in the Sheridan Retreat Center.  The coffee is always on and we enjoy great discussion and fellowship time together.  Hope to see you there.

EDUCATION VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION WEEK!  Calling all folks who volunteer in education ministries to come be appreciated on Sunday, May 11, or Sunday, May 18 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the small kitchen in the Children’s Ministry Wing.  Come enjoy some goodies and treats as a way to show our appreciation for all you do to help others know Jesus!  If you are involved as a volunteer with Wednesdays @ the Well, Kingdom Quest, Spirit Quest, Children’s Music, Confirmation, Youth Group, Adult Education or Babies in Christ Mentors you are invited!

 

SR. HIGH YOUTH GROUP  All Sr. High Youth and their friends are invited to join Pastor Jeremy and Amy for youth group time from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Sundays. We will be focusing on the rollercoaster that life can be and what it means to be a Christian Teen throughout it. GALILEE BY THE SEA will be each Wednesday through May 21, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.  Each Wednesday evening, dinner will be served from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for participants.  At Galilee By-the-Sea, you’ll be able to experience for yourselves what it was like to live when Jesus did.  This intergenerational living history event will be the finale of this years Wednesdays @ the Well and will help participants of all ages experience new traditions, taste new foods, try new arts and crafts projects, and discover that God sent his most precious gift, his own Son, to save us from our sins.  There is still time to be a part of these memorable Wednesday events. This week’s supper menu is French dip sandwich, Sun Chips, pickle spears, fruit kabobs and cookies for dessert.

 

8th GRADE CONFIRMATION MEETINGS  There will be informational meetings for current 8th grade confirmation students and their parents on Wednesday, May 14, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 18, at noon.  Both meetings will be in the Worship Center and families need only attend one meeting.

 

A NEW MUSIC OPPORTUNITY FOR 1st-6th GRADERS!  We are looking for kids who would be interested in presenting a “Mini-Musical” for worship.  A mini-musical is a short drama mixed with a few songs.  We are doing the “Names Of God”, written by Kathie Hill.  The scene is set up like a game show with the audience being the choir.  We will present it as a children’s message for all four services on the weekend of June 28 and 29.  Practices begin on May 25, for 5 weeks, at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings.  If you’re interested, or have other questions, contact Julie Anderson at 423-4769 or j.anderson@sheridanlutheran.org.

CLINIC WITH A HEART  The next Sheridan sponsored Clinic with a Heart night is May 13.  This is a free walk-in medical clinic for those in need located at 3901 N. 27th Street. If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering, please let Deb Caudill know at dcaudill@neb.rr.com or 402-423-9503.  Medical and non medical volunteers are needed.

YOUNG ADULT FAMILIES HOLMES PARK OUTING  Attention Young Adult Families!  Come play at Holmes Park on Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m.  Join the families of Pastors Jeremy & John along with other Sheridan families for an afternoon of fun.  Please bring a sack lunch for you and your family and we will eat lunch together in one of the shelters.  We will be sending out e-mails with more detailed information.  E-mail any questions to Pastor Jeremy at j.freye@sheridanlutheran.org

 

GRATEFUL HEART IN CONCERT  will be at Sheridan Lutheran Church on Sunday evening, May 18, at 6:00 p.m.  Grateful Heart is a men’s quartet that includes our Interim Music Director, Kevin Wissink.

 

FOOD, FELLOWSHIP & FUN  Men’s Night Out at Bob Terpsma’s, 12200 Roca Road, will be Friday, May 23, at 6:00 p.m.  There will be brats, beans, chips, salad, dessert, iced tea and water furnished.  You may bring other beverages if you wish.  We will play cards after eating.  If you plan to come, please put your name on the sign-up sheet at the men’s area in the Great Hall.  That will give us a count for food.

 

THE FOOD PANTRY IS MOVING!  Just around the block.  Patti says that she's going to need help with packing, moving, and hauling on Saturday, June 7.  All volunteers are welcome - please call the pantry at 488-2132 to let them know you're coming.

 

LOCAL OUTREACH MINISTRY  Volunteers are needed for Tabitha Meals on Wheels!  With the passing of one of our own, we need volunteers to fill the void created by the death of Stan Jordan.  Stan and Winnie have done a MOW route for 27 years; help is needed for every Monday and other days on a monthly or quarterly basis.  Be paired with a Sheridan partner or be a sub.  Contact Pastor John Eggen at j.eggen@sheridanlutheran.org for more information.

 

TABITHA MEALS ON WHEELS  The 6th Annual Gateway Sertoma Golf Tournament proceeds will benefit Meals on Wheels.  The tournament is Friday, June 6 at Hi Mark Golf Course.  This is a four person golf scramble with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.  They are looking for golfers and sponsors.  Registration deadline is June 1.  For more information please contact Charlie Huff at 440-0892 or by email at ccharliehuff@aol.com.

SHERIDAN SOFTBALL SCHEDULE  Sheridan has 5 softball teams that play at Union College fields at 56th and Calvert.  They would love to have you come and support them.  The games will be listed on the calendar throughout the season.
