Haiti Emergency Relief

If one part suffers, every part suffers with it...

We sit in waiting with our brothers and sisters in Haiti following the January 12th earthquake.  Sheridan has important ministry partners in Haiti through the Haitian Timoun Foundation and a passion for the wellbeing of our friends there.  As we experience this time of waiting we invite you to join us in praying for the wellbeing of those in Haiti and in providing resources to disaster releif agencies working in Haiti.

Haiti Relief Concert & Health Kit Update

Thank you to all who attended the Haiti Relief Concert and who brought health items for Lutheran World Relief. The concert raised over $6,000 and enough health supplies were donated for 150 health kits-how awesome!

Mark your calendars- The Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti Returns to Sheridan! One night only, March 23rd!

Our eyes have been turned to the devastation of the Haiti earthquake of January 12th. Now is the time to turn our eyes to the promise of new life in Haiti following the quake. The dancers and drummers of the Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti are returning to Sheridan on Tuesday, March 23rd @ 7PM. This is the same group from Haiti that came to us in November 2008. Through dance, this troupe tells stories of Haitian culture, the difficulties of life on the streets, the beauty of God's love in human community and the promise of the resurrection in Jesus. Various artists and musicians of the Sheridan community will collaborate with RDTH on this special night. All are invited. A free will offering will benefit our ministry partners of the Haitian Timoun Foundation (www.htflive.org) or (www.heartswithhaiti.org) and their resurrection rebuilding efforts! Contact Pastor Rhonda for more info.

Haiti Day Camp for K-5th grade, March 23rd

Elementary kids - warm up over spring break and come to a special, one day only, day camp! On Tuesday, March 23rd from 9 AM - 4 PM, Sheridan staff along with the Resurrection Dance Theater, will put on a day camp where children will learn about drumming, dancing, and life in Haiti. We will also do a service project that benefits hungry children. Following the camp, children who participate in camp will perform with the Resurrection Dance Theater for their concert at 7 PM that same day. The $30 fee includes lunch and a T-shirt. Download a registration form at the bottom of this page, or pick one up at the Activities Center. Contact Julie Anderson, Julie Hestermann or Pastor Rhonda for more info.

Emergency Disaster Relief

Sheridan will be working to provide funding for emergency disaster releif through both the Haitian Timoun Foundation and Lutheran World Relief.  We urge those interested in providing disaster relief to ensure the money goes to reputable organizations.  Sheridan has been ministry partners with HTF for a number of years and both HTF and LWR are active reputable groups working in both short-term disaster response and long-term care of Haiti.  Any funding given to Sheridan designated for Haiti will be forwarded to one of these two agencies.  Gifts can also be given directly at www.lwr.org or www.htflive.org  100% of donations to either organization are sent directly to Haiti.

Matched Giving through Thrivent

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members who want to make a financial contribution to support disaster response efforts in Haiti can have their donations to one of four Lutheran relief agencies multiplied by the fraternal benefit society.

To participate, visit www.thrivent.com/helpinghaiti and make a contribution to one of the following:

  • Lutheran World Relief
  • ELCA Disaster Response

Thrivent Financial will add $1 to every $2 its members donate, up to a total Thrivent Financial contribution of $1 million. That means a potential of $3 million or more to support relief efforts: $2 million + from its members and $1 million added by Thrivent Financial.
